Hey peeps. If you are active on social media you are probably already aware of the #IndieApril hashtag which is being used to promote independent and self-published books and authors this month. We are now more than halfway through the month, and to mark the occasion, the ebook edition of my first novel, The Exercise Of Vital Powers, is on sale for just £0.99/$0.99/€0.99 all this week.
It’s exactly a month since the re-release of The Exercise Of Vital Powers, and it’s time for a look back at what the book has accomplished in those four weeks. To start with, I probably don’t need to state that sales, so far, are nothing to write home about. But as mentioned in a previous post, I’m not particularly interested in sales figures this time around. My primary goal in publishing a revised second edition of my debut novel is to ensure there is a large enough potential audience for the upcoming sequel. With that in mind I set three (non-sales related) end of year targets to determine whether the publication of a sequel next year is worthwhile. Now, one month later, let’s see how much closer I am to achieving these targets.
As you know, the second edition of The Exercise Of Vital Powers was released a week ago today. But how has it been faring in that short time? Do I have a bestseller on my hands? Am I giving J.K. Rowling a run for her money? The answer, of course, is no. Consequently, I won’t be relinquishing the “Worst Selling Author” moniker any time soon, although it is worth mentioning that the new edition has already sold more copies in a week than the first edition did during its eight months on sale. Admittedly, that’s not saying much, but I consider it a good sign that things are moving in the right direction.
This is just a quick update to let everyone (who cares) know that the second edition of The Exercise Of Vital Powers is now available to purchase. You can currently buy the ebook from Amazon and Kobo, though it should also become available at Barnes & Noble and iBooks at some point today. For readers who prefer paperbacks, it’s only available from Amazon at present and I have no idea when that will change.
For those of you who have not been paying attention, pre-orders for the second edition of The Exercise Of Vital Powers became available at the start of the week. Anyone wanting to do so can order their copy from Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble or Smashwords.
This week I’ve finally been forced to do something that I really wanted to avoid doing, but can no longer justify not doing. I have decided to make my debut novel The Exercise Of Vital Powers an Amazon exclusive by enrolling it in the KDP Select program. If you don’t know what that entails, KDP Select is the means by which Amazon incentivises authors to give them exclusive ebook distribution rights, in exchange for various promotional perks. Choosing to go this route means that authors cannot sell their books via any other marketplaces, be it Apple iBooks or Kobo.
For those of you who are still undecided about taking a chance on my debut novel, The Exercise Of Vital Powers, this is advanced notice to let you know that the Kindle edition will be free to purchase from Amazon on Monday 26th June, so you will no longer have any excuse to continue to holding off getting your copy. If you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber you can read it for free, right now, until 16th August 2017.
